Suspect Surrenders peacefully to end Whittier Standoff
Early Friday morning, a man held his wife hostage for over twelve hours in front of their Whittier apartment. The incident started around 4 pm on Thursday and ended early Friday morning. The incident occurred at their apartment located on the 7900 block of Bright Avenue when authorities were called about a domestic disturbance call involving a man and a woman. When the officers arrived at the scene, they saw the man start breaking windows and noticed he had a handgun. So the police called in the crisis negotiator and the SWAT team for Whittier, CA to help with the situation. Investigators still do not know what led to the dispute, but the man slightly injured his wife during the whole ordeal. The authorities evacuated the whole block and set up a perimeter around the apartment, where the suspect barricaded himself. After over 12 hours of negotiations, the man finally surrendered peacefully and no one had fire a single shot. The suspect is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles and is being held on an $180,000 bail.
